Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics: Special Collection in Honor of Bjorn Engquist in the Occasion of His 70th Birthday

The purpose of this special issue is to give a comprehensive coverage of some of the most t exciting developments in applied and computational mathematics in recent years. The contributing authors are leading experts in various subfields of applied and computational mathematics. The topics that we cover include multiscale analysis and computation, fast algorithms in solving complex linear and nonlinear partial differential equations, kinetic theory, uncertainty quantification, mathematics of finance, and various applications. Of particular inteerst is how to use recently develiped information science techniques to solve high dimensional partial differential equations or differential equations with high dimensional input data. The integration of information sciences and physical sciences will play an increasing role in applied mathematics research. Professor Bjorn Engquist has been a pioneering contributor in many of these research areas mentioned above and his research is still at the forefront of these research areas. It is very appropriate to publish this special issue in honor of his 70th birthday and his many outstanding contributions in applied and computational mathematics.
